A dazzling city itself with tall buildings creeping into the sky, it can be hard to find a bit peace and quiet in Shanghai. People’s Park is perhaps is one of the best places in the city to achieve this without travelling far.
Covering, 150,000 m2, it was built on the grounds of the former Shanghai Race Club. There are two museums in the park as well as a lake and a large pond with a cafe-bar, Barbarossa. It is a popular tourist spot but also popular with locals. As it is close to a major shopping street, it would be the place to go if you need to take a breath from consumerism that is so hard to escape from in China.
